The Whispers

Celebrating more than six decades in the music industry, The Whispers remain one of the most enduring and respected vocal groups in R&B history. Formed in 1964 at Jordan High School in Watts, California, the group has built a remarkable legacy defined by smooth harmonies, romantic ballads, and dance-floor classics. Their signature blend of soul, disco, jazz, and pop has earned them thirty-three Top Ten hits, twenty Billboard-charted albums, and 46 Billboard hit singles over the course of their career.

Among their most iconic songs are “And the Beat Goes On,” “Rock Steady,” “A Song for Donny,” and “Lady.” As the first group signed to Soul Train Records, and later achieving major success with Solar Records, The Whispers became one of the most celebrated romantic vocal groups of their generation, earning multiple gold albums and a loyal global fan base. Their music has been sampled more than 131 times and featured on over 600 compilation projects. They are also undertaking the important effort of re-recording their catalog to secure ownership of their masters.

The group maintained a consistent lineup for decades, with Leaveil Degree joining in 1973. Following the passing of Nicholas Caldwell in 2016 and Walter Scott in 2025, the remaining members, Wallace “Scotty” Scott and Leaveil Degree, continue to honor and advance the group’s legacy.
